“Eight further projects are to be carried out at locations in Gozo with the help of €400,000 in funding from the eco-Gozo scheme for Local Councils and Administrative Committees. This is the second call on this scheme for projects that are in line with the eco-Gozo Action Plan 2010 – 2012. “
The Minister for Gozo, Giovanna Debono, announced this during a press conference, during which the agreements were signed between the Ministry for Gozo and the Mayors and Executive Secretaries of Fontana, Ghajnsielem, Kercem, St. Lawrence, Sannat, Victoria, Xewkija and Zebbug.
The Minister thanked the Local Councils and Administrative Committees that had shown interest in both calls under this scheme, which had resulted in several projects proposed covering different sectors affecting different spheres of Gozitan society
“These projects will make a difference in their respective sectors, both local and regionally. The eight projects launched today will enhance the overall appearance and locations of public facilities, better conservation and improvement of historic and natural areas, while also covering initiatives relating to good environmental practices.”
The Ministry said that the eight projects in the second call under this scheme will be aided through funds of almost € 400,000 and will complement the 13 projects undertaken in the first call from 8 Local Councils and three Gozo Administrative Committees with support of more than € 660,000. “Many Local Councils, have substantial projects and have the opportunity to benefit from a grant of up to 95% of the total cost up to €70,000 for projects which enhance the sustainability of their locality. While others have used this opportunity to carry out two to three projects and also benefit from the same maximum aid.”
The Minister said that they all were, or will be, projects and initiatives that will continue to improve facilities, services, other environments and really make a difference in their locations and be of benefit to the residents.
