Malta coach Anthony Micallef has named a 24-man train-on squad ahead the national team’s Dove Men+Care international against Denmark on June the 9th.
Micallef has named 14 of the 24 from Malta’s domestic championship and says no less than nine players that take the field against Denmark will be products of the Dove Men+Care Championship. Clifford Debattista, Gary Hili, Shan Francois Hussain were all picked from the Gozo RL.
“I’ve had the pleasure to name a strong squad that may see some new faces called into the national team against Denmark. It’s always nice to see a new face or two if they warranted it and in this case they have,” said Micallef.
Micallef welcomed eleven new players into the train-on squad including Serbian born Malta rugby union international Dragan Cerkata.
“Dragan has been a standout in the local championship, this championship has been his first time playing rugby league yet he’s been very strong”
Micallef said players aiming for national team selection were not restricted to those named in the train-on squad.
“There is a chance another player or two will be added to the train-on squad but the majority of the team will come from this squad,” said Micallef.
