Turnout to vote drops to 93 percent, the lowest since 1971

Election 2008Turnout in yesterday’s general election reached 93 percent, three percentage points below the level reached in 2003, the Electoral Commission has said.

The turnouts by 11.00pm for the General Elections for each district is as follows:

District 1: 93%, District 2: 94%, District 3: 94%, District 4: 94%, District 5: 94%, District 6: 94%, District 7: 94%, District 8: 94%, District 9: 93%, District 10: 92%, District 11: 94%, District 12: 91%, District 13: 92%.

The final average turnout of all localities for the local council elections was 86% compared to 68% in 2005. The percentage turnouts for each locality by 11.00pm were as follows:

Gozo:
Fontana: 90%
Ghajnsielem: 83%
Ghasri: 78%
Nadur: 85%
Xewkija: 89%

Malta:
Balzan: 89%
Dingli: 94%
Iklin: 91%
Kirkop: 93%
Marsa: 90%
Mellieha: 81%
Mqabba: 92%
Pembroke: 89%
Qrendi: 94%
Senglea: 89%
St. Julian’s: 77%
St. Paul’s Bay: 68%
Sta. Venera: 92%
Ta’ Xbiex: 86%
Valletta: 88%
Zebbug: 92%
Zejtun: 92%
Zurrieq: 92%
