The Port and Transport Section of UHM today signed a collective agreement with Gozo Channel. UHM said that although “the talks were difficult, after a series of discussions with the management of Gozo Channel and with the intervention of Minister Tonio Fenech, who is responsible for Gozo Channel, an agreement was reached on the financial package.”
The UHM expressed its satisfaction that during these discussions, both sides showed a serious commitment to the ultimate agreement that would be of benefit to the workers and be for the good of the company. Furthermore, it said, “this agreement has been reached because both representatives of the UHM and the Gozo Channel’s management believed that the discussions were the necessary and acceptable solution for everyone.”
The Collective Agreement covers up to December the 31st 2012 and includes new conditions for the Gozo Channel employees, including salary increases and working in line with the policy of balancing duties and family life.
It was signed following a meeting held for the company’s employees, during which they approved the agreement. Mr Martin Caruana, Section Secretary and Mr Grezzju Bonello, Shop Stewards, signed on behalf of UHM. Gozo Channel Chairman, Mr Paul Curmi, and Mr Warren Grech, Head of Human Resources, signed on behalf of the management.
