Zebbug Day 2012 celebrated with a day of entertainmentThe Zebbug Local Council organised various activities to mark Zebbug Day 2012, which was celebrated recently.

In the morning, a Football Tournament for children was held on the grounds of the Primary School, coordinated by the local football team management of Zebbug Rovers F.C.

In the evening a Thanksgiving Mass was celebrated at Zebbug Parish Church by Kan. Rev. Ruben Micallef, the parish Archpriest, to mark the 324th anniversary of Zebbug Parish foundation.

Afterwards a Commemorative Musical Soiree, presided by the Minister for Gozo, Giovanna Debono, was held at the main hall of the Parish Centre, with the participation of Banda Santa Marija of Zebbug.

This event was attended by all members of the Local Council, members of the clergy, committee members from Socjeta’ Filarmonika Santa Marija and the general public. Speeches were delivered by the newly appointed Mayor Nicky Saliba, Archpriest Kan. Rev. Ruben Micallef, Vice-Mayor Mario Cassar and the other three Councillors Mrs. Maria Saliba, Mr Joseph Camilleri and Mr Victor Refalo. The Minister for Gozo also delivered a speech for the occasion.

The annual award “Gieh iz-Zebbug” was presented by Mayor Nicky Saliba to Mr Harry Debono, as a sign of appreciation towards this person who served for 18 years as an active member of the Local Council, as a Mayor, as Vice-Mayor and also as a councillor.

Two main events will take place next month, organized by the Zebbug Local Council and the Marsalforn Administrative Committee: “Lwien ir-Rebbiegha,” a festival of culture, tradition and music, held in Zebbug between Friday, the 2nd of June and Sunday, the 3rd of June; and “Gmiel ir-Rebbiegha,” an event to be held in Marsalforn on Saturday, the 9th and Sunday, the 10th of June 2012.
