Dragon Run 1027 underway in aid of Gozo CCU Foundation

The Dragon Run 1027 for charity started in Cardiff bay on Saturday, the 24th March. From here, Sports Therapist Anne-Marie ‘Arry’ Beresford-Webb, started to head west to tackle the run in a clockwise direction, finishing back in Cardiff bay on Saturday, the 5th of May.
Arry is running the entire distance, which amounts to the equivalent of 39.2 marathons, back to back, within a maximum timescale of 42 days.
So far physically, Arry’s knee is “more swollen” than it’s meant to be, she’s done a bit of damage to a quad muscle in each of her thighs and has a stress/tendonitis pain in her right foot, but she is still going with the help of her back-up team and sometimes the welcome company of fellow runners who join her for some parts of the runs.
Dragon Run 1027 is a 1027 mile, multi day ultramarathon, around the entire perimeter of Wales.
Arry is attempting to raise £25K for two charities, The Gozo CCU Foundation (www.gozoccufoundation.com) and Velindre Cancer Centre’s Stepping Stones Appeal for lung cancer research (www.velindrefundraising.com)
The route will consist of 2 National Trails: The Wales Coast Path (that will officially open at the end of the run on 5th May), and The Offa’s Dyke path, which runs the length of the Wales/England border.
The run is on rough terrain throughout, making this an ultra trail run as opposed to a road run. This presents a number of additional challenges with regards to balance, concentration and the need to have continually fast reactions to cope with the changing environments. It is also, by no means a flat run and consists of continually varying elevations throughout. As she is running a majority of the mileage on the coastline, she really needs to hope that the wind direction decides to help her out!
The overall aim of the run (apart from to finish in some sort of unbroken state!) is to raise £25,000 for Velindre Cancer Centre in Cardiff which has treated friends and relatives of both Arry and Guy, and Gozo CCU Foundation, which cared for both of Arry’s parents prior to their passing away.
