Rebuilding of Xlendi road was an utter waste of moneyReaders Letter – “I thought that the money that the tax payer spent in rebuilding this road to Xlendi was supposed to stop this happening again?

Is this what we waited x amount of years for, plus well over a year to build?

    An utter waste of money.”

    Anthony J Stivala.

its a mistake to say its a waste of money….. its a valley and you expect that amount of water

What is the point of fitting those ginormous tubes underground to serve as water canals? I remember quite clearly when they said this will not happen again

We,the people of Malta and Gozo, never learn the necesities of life,God send us the
rain to be able to grow our winter crops, for our animals and human beings and
we do not have the brains ,to capture all the water that is wasted and store it in a
place like some students sugested from some schools from Gozo ,requested
and the Government support them with the money for these projects that and the
land could be irrigated during the summer heat and make a good use of the rain.

first people build on valley beds.
then they expect water not to drain through them…

this country is hilarious – where would you expect rainwater to drain from mr stivala?…
the thing out of place in the photo is the construction not the water.

Ask the designers of the road for the calculations for the drainage and you will find that they have none, Poor construction and a waste of European money. Why not just do the job properly in the first place and get some decent Civil Engineers in to begin with.

When I lived in Cumbria in the UK, a similar occurrence happened in my nearby town of Cockermouth. Whilst some improved drainage has been planned, the house and shops have had to be redesigned and rebuilt so that any further flooding will be more inconvenient rather than devastating. By the way, Cockermouth has been around for a thousand years so these issues are hardly new, just our reactions!
