Union Haddiem Maghqudin (UHM) has said today that it has registered an industrial dispute with Gozo Channel Company that it to start industrial actions from this coming Thursday, February the 16th.
UHM said that it is because of a disagreement on the Collective Agreement financial package of these workers, which expired at the end of 2008.
This weekend sees the start of Carnival in Gozo, which would normally draw thousands of visitors to the island from Malta.
The union said that despite numerous representations made, no revision has been put forward in the financial proposals by the Gozo Channel Management that correspond with the productivity and performance.
UHM said is is disappointed that although the Union and the Gozo Channel employees cooperated for many years with Gozo Channel to achieve the desired results, “Gozo Channel Management is now failing to appreciate the situation adequately.”
“Gozo Channel Management have been informed by correspondence that a range of different industrial actions have been issued which will start on Thursday,” the union said.
