Xaghra Local Council said that it is once again organising an edition of the village’s Carnival on Saturday, the 18th and Sunday, the 19th of February 2012.
Saturday’s programme will be held in Nazzarenu Square and starts at 7.30pm. The programme includes dances from local companies and several competitions for the best carnival costumes for different age groups. Other competitions which draw a lot of interest include those for the best carnival masquerade, best decorated agricultural tractor and the best spontaneous Carnival costume.
This year’s programme will also include the spontaneous Carnival in Mannar Street. A free glass of local-made wine will be given to those present and the Gozitan traditional ftira will be on sale. The Carnival programme ends with a one-hour musical concert by the local band Synergy.
The main and last spectacular Carnival programme in Xaghra will be held on Sunday, the 19th of February 2012 from 10.30am onwards.
The programme starts in front of Ta’ Kola Windmill with festive band marches by the Victory Philharmonic Society of Xaghra from the club’s premises in Maria Bambina Street passing through 8th September Avenue and ending in Victory Square.
In Victory Square the programme starts at noon and includes Carnival dances by several Gozitan dance companies and Carnival floats. The prinjolata will be given to those present. At the end of the programme, Xaghra Mayor, Joe Cordina will distribute prizes to the winners of the Carnival competitions organised by the Xaghra Local Council. The popular couple Veronica and Joe Farrugia (id-Dulli) will present the show.
The Xaghra Local Council is warmly inviting everyone to come and enjoy the Carnival activities in a friendly atmosphere. Entertainment is guaranteed for all the family!
