The Gozo Channel Company registered a record profit for the year, with increases in both the number of passengers and vehicles it carried between the two islands.
Between October 2006 and September 2007, the company registered a net profit of €1,854,000, a significant increase over the €657,000 registered in the corresponding twelve months the year before.
The profit was mainly derived from a reduction in the operating and administrative expenses, which decreased by 2 per cent and 5 per cent respectively, and an increase in both the company’s income (7 per cent) and its operating income (67 per cent).
The company also reported that the last weeks carnival weekend was its busiest carnival ever, when it carried almost 65,000 passengers and just under 20,000 vehicles in a total of 344 trips.
