Keeping up the unbroken tradition of 43-years, the people of San Lawrenz will put aside their daily chores and labours and take up the role of a Bible figure from the nativity story. This is the village’s unassuming but genuine way of celebrating the blessed night of Christmas.
It all commenced as a small pageant. Nonetheless quaint small villages possess a strong characteristic that will not to let go of community initiatives, but make them flourish to become their pride and joy. Young and old alike take up the Biblical roles of Adam, Eve, Simon the Prophet and narrate the story of salvation. Visitors should not expect refined and polished acting – but a genuine parental advice of a people who live and stand by their rockhard faith.
For many, Christmas Eve is a time for lavish dinners, merrymaking and presents. Yet many times one risks to let the real spirit of Christmas slip by. The good people of San Lawrenz wholeheartedly miss the shine and glitter to experience the true wonder and blessing of this Holy night.
Indeed, all the villagers of San Lawrenz warmly welcome everyone to the 2011 Nativity Pageant, at 8.30pm on Christmas eve at the village’s main square.
