The Fondazzjoni Bethlehem f’Ghajnsielem who this year are organising the fourth edition of Bethlehem f’Ghajnsielem at Ta’ Passi, are benefiting from a grant of around €19,000 from the Ministry Gozo under the eco-Gozo scheme for NGOs for projects related to the Plan of Action of eco-Gozo from 2010 to 2012.
The Minister for Gozo, Giovanna Debono visited Ta’ Passi where final preparations are underway for the opening day this coming Sunday. The Minister said that “the Ministry for Gozo has always fully supported the initiative of the Foundation, which has over recent years made the Nativity village a leading event on the Maltese cultural calender for the festive season.”
The grant has been used to purchase the necessary furniture and materials for the different areas, farm machinery, as well as the production and publication of a thousand booklets for children which were printed on recycled paper. This booklet will include information about Bethlehem f’Ghajnsielem, the various traditions, as well as games.
Point of interests will include the carpenter and blacksmith houses, the bakery, a market selling natural fruits, fresh fish and vegetables, a wine tavern, the Bethlehem Inn, a local crafts area and a stable hosting the animals. The main attraction will be the grotto with Mary, Joseph and baby Jesus. Fresh water will be flowing around these structures through a small river.
Each house will host a family, played by actors, to remind us that the story of Christmas revolves around a family.
It is expected that as in previous years, the Nativity village will draw thousands of visitors including Maltese and tourists who visit Gozo over the festive period.
