Malta International Airport and the Malta Tourism Authority expressed great satisfaction at the announcement made yesterday by Air France, that the French national airline will begin operating scheduled flights to Malta from Toulouse in France as of April 2012.
Commenting about this decision, Malta Airport CEO Austin Calleja said that the Company is welcoming this decision as it is the first time that the French legacy carrier will be carrying out a scheduled operation to Malta. “It is indeed a very important step that a legacy carrier like Air France has decided to insert Malta as part of its network. This falls well within the joint efforts of MIA’s Airline Marketing Department together with the Malta Tourism Authority to sustain Malta’s accessibility,” concluded Mr Calleja.
MTA CEO, Josef Formosa Gauci said that the Authority warmly welcomed the Air France announcement and deemed this to be as a significant step forward for our islands’ tourism industry. He commented that: “Air France’s commencement of scheduled operations to Malta will undoubtedly further enhance the Maltese islands’ presence in the French market. The move also reflects a certain confidence that exists in Destination Malta as a viable route for a wide cross section of carriers, including one of Europe’s leading legacy airlines: Air France.”
Air France will be operating this service as from April 2012 through the deployment of an Airbus A320.
