Can the Authorities or somebody please explain why Hondoq Ir- Rummien is never listed or advertised with other beaches in the newspapers.
Hondoq Ir-Rummien is the best and the most visited beach besides Ramla Bay. It is the most popular beach, and also most important for Gozo when the wind blows from the West , North West and North, It beats Ramla Bay and all the others combined.
Hondoq Ir-Rummien has all the facilities that other beaches have in the rest of Gozo, and it is the cleanest with less jelly fish bar none. Tested regularly, it is the least polluted beach of all beaches in Malta and Gozo according to tests by the Health Authorities.
There are road signs in Qala village for Hondoq Bay but that’s about it, many people have never heard of it because it is not in the newspapers with the others.
Is there some kind of conspiracy going on to help the developers build the proposed Qala Creek Project in this only pristine bay left in Gozo, and destroy it for ever? Are they keeping this area on the low side of advertising on purpose?
If so the Authorities must be reminded time and time again that Qala Residents voted 85% against this project in a Referendum held by Qala Council.

This is true, why do the authorities try to keep Hondoq as a low profile when thousands visit Hondoq each summer Mr Xerri is 100% right when he wrote this article.
All the authorities have to do is to visit Hondoq during summer time and the will surely think twice to give the go ahead for the destruction of one of the most important beaches we have in Gozo.
Politicians please before you take any decisions visit Hondoq and see all the people enjoying themselves, it will be on your conscience.
So please leave Hondoq for everyone to enjoy not for the few. Well said Mr Xerri.
I agree. I always make sure I go to Hondoq when I visit Gozo. I was just there this past summer and was surprised how there are virtually no directions to show you how to get there. Luckily for me, I ‘ve been going there long enough that I know the way. I truly hope that no one is thinking of developing this area.
If Hondoq has been mentioned as a possible developement area, do you expect it to be included in the list of beautiful places to visit in Gozo? Hondoq, Ta’ Cenc and other areas are too much to be included as part of Gozo.

Please think very carefully about the proposed Hondoq project. If this goes ahead Gozo will be ruined forever. The type of people this attempts to attract to Gozo do not come to a peaceful island like Gozo, they prefer to go to the Spanish Costas , South of France, Majorca etc. The results of the destruction will ultimately become a huge ‘white elephant’.
We’re British and visit Hondoq regularly when we come to Gozo, its a brilliant tiny little beach, however it should NEVER be changed or altered in anyway, except to clean maybe the debris and stones that collect over the winter months that are rather hazardous – on one occasion we had to take a trip to the local clinic for our younger daughter to have a tetanus injection, maybe a one off, but it could happen again to some other poor person or persons.
A nice layer of sand as the Maltese have done in St. Julians would be nice, preferably local sand, not Jordanian or some other import. Why spend money while you guys have got it locally.
As we say in Britain, Three cheers tfor Hondoq and its surrounding beauty that is natural and should remain so, without spoiling it for others to gain and get fat on.

As a regular visitor to Gozo, I feel that developing this area will ruin this beautiful coast line and will turn Gozo into just another generic holiday resort instead of the beautiful unique island that it is.
There are so many properties for sale and rent in Gozo and the hotels this summer all have plenty of vacancies, so why do they need to build more???
We must do our very best to save such natural sites in particular manner in regards the environment in isle of Gozo. Hondoq ir-Rummien is indeed a national gemstone to preserve and not a ?dumping spot? as someone appallingly had classified it!
Keep Gozo a ?Diamond in the heart of the Mediterranean?!!!
I have lived in the USA. for the past fifty years, I have also visited Qala, Hondoq every year for the past twenty years. Take Hondoq away and there will be no reason to visit Qala. Don’t ruin this memory from our lives for the all mighty €.

The Pheonicians, The Greeks, The Romans, The Arabs, Turks, Spanish, French and British…all came to this jewel of an island. They all visited Hondoq and left it as they found it.
World Wars left it untouched.
It’s now in the heart of thousands of residents and tourists as a serene place of relaxation and beauty.
It would be a crime against nature itself if Gozitan folk, in their guise as Councillors, Planners and Politicians, ruined this place.
To all such persons, I say this….”the beauty, peace and tranquility of Hondoq is not yours. You didn’t earn it. It was handed to you from past generations. You are merely the custodians of it. It is not yours to give away.”
For once, just once….stick to your heart’s principals and ignore the dollar signs.
Hondoq is one of the best beaches. Deserves more promotion.
