GO Malta is again pledging its full support to l-Istrina – Malta’s high-powered fund-raising campaign scheduled for 26 December. GO said that it prides itself on being one of l-Istrina’s longest-standing partner and supporter and has been actively involved in the worthy cause since its inception 12 years ago. GO has just presented the Malta Community Chest Fund (MCCF) with a donation of €36,984.80 (up by €7,1938 on the previous year) representing GO’s revenue share from donations made from fixed line and mobile during last year’s edition of l-Istrina.
In addition, GO said it has “extended its support towards other events organised by The Malta Community Chest Fund including Rockestra – not just a charity concert but another focal point of Malta’s annual music calendar – and the President’s Fun Run on December 4. In addition, this year GO will be organising an auction, to be conducted by Obelisk Auctioneers, of memorabilia signed by Gary Neville at the Manchester United Supporters Club, Sta Venera at 2.00pm on Saturday, 5 November 2011, before the Premier League match Man United vs Sunderland. All proceeds from the auction of the football and five T-shirts will go to l-Istrina, thanks to the support from the club and Obelisk.”
GO is the official communications provider for the Malta Community Chest Fund and gives its support by providing a wide range of communications and entertainment services free of charge throughout the year at the Malta Community Chest Fund (MCCF) premises, the Palace, Valletta and the l-Istrina Office housed at San Anton Palace, Attard.
GO said it “plays an intrinsic role every year in the management of communications for the l-Istrina activity and offers its support by waiving call charges and other expenses mainly associated with phone-in donations during the nationwide fund-raising initiative. Last year, thge amount of €696,672 was collected from fixed line donations (GO and other service providers) totalled and €115,460.82 from SMS (GO network only). In addition GO waived €22,280 in labour costs and the installation of fibre.”
Speaking about the communications set-up for l-Istrina this year, Charles Mansueto, l-Istrina Project Manager at GO said, “The network and support for this year’s activity will definitely require a custom configuration. Our years of experience play a huge role in the provision of a strong and reliable telecoms framework for this annual activity.”
GO will be providing the usual telephone setup, that basically consists of a phone-in platform to receive calls over the Premium Number service. This system, equipped with about 70 telephones, receives calls from the public and accepts donations on a real-time basis. Some other 60 lines will be used for the support and coordination of the activity.
The backbone infrastructure will consist of copper and fibre cables, with the latter being extended from Rabat all the way up to Verdala Palace. These will support all the telecom services including hot lines, pledge lines, general lines with ‘hunting’ facility, SMS donation lines and mobile connections, data connections for high-speed ADSL for use by l-Istrina.
During the presentation of GO’s donation cheque to H.E. Dr George Abela, President of Malta, David Kay, GO’s Chief Executive Officer said, “This time of the year is very special for GO in that we take the chance to focus some of our efforts on meeting our important social responsibilities. Throughout the year GO supports a range of deserving events aimed at enhancing the lifestyles of the less fortunate members of the local community. These events cover a wide spectrum of community experience with l-Istrina being by far the leading initiative we have invested in over the years.”
“We are indeed privileged to have the opportunity of working closely with MCCF, l-Istrina organising team and all local TV stations, and indeed everyone committed to the success of this year’s edition of l-Istrina. Our technical teams – as always – will be making every effort to secure the success of the fund-raising marathon,” he said.
GO will again waive charges as well as provide man-hours, communications infrastructure and various quad-play services throughout the event and once again join forces with other local companies and will be making a cash donation to l-Istrina in line with its social responsibilities.
