Last night saw the great success of the opening night of “Norma,” at Teatru Astra, in Victoria, drawing the audience into the drama the moment the curtain rose, barely able to draw a breath thoughout both acts. With scenery and special effects that made you feel part of the opera, melodious singing and the orchestra drawing on every emotion.
The second performance of “Norma” takes place tomorrow, Saurday, the 29th of October.
Teatru Astra has also announced the title of the opera production for the festival in 2012 – Giacomo Puccini’s “Madama Butterfly.”
Teatru Astra will stick to its 10-year tradition of the opera performance taking place on the last Saturday of October and the Thursday preceding it, with the dates chosen for next year being 25 and 27 October 2012.
The opera is expected to open what will be the 11th edition of this annual festival of culture that seeks to expose that which the island of Gozo is well-known for in the cultural field: opera, music, history, archaeology, trades and traditions.
