At 1,182, the non-fatal accidents at work increased by 7.4 per cent when compared to the same quarter in the preceding year. There were no fatal accidents at work during the period under review. Non-Fatal Accidents - This report covers accidents at work that were reported to the Department of Social Security (DSS) as from April to June 2008. The administrative records for the injury benefit of the DSS indicate that 1,182 persons had an accident in the course of their work in the period under review. Accordingly, the number of accidents in the second quarter of this year increased by 81 (7.4 per cent) over the same period in the preceding year. Victoria Local Council recently sent their proposals to the Minister of Finance regarding a new ring road and parking spaces in Victoria. The Proposals are shown below: Proposition - Construction of an alternative route around Victoria (ring-road) and the increase in the number of parking facilities within the City. Insertion / addition - Chapter 10 (Gozo), sub-measure 'Transport' Rationale - Improve inter-island traffic flows by improving access to and around Victoria. The laudable investment being undertaken by Government to improve access from the Port to the outskirts of Victoria and from the outskirts of Victoria to Saint Lawrence confirms that the authorities understand the strategic importance of Victoria within the socio-economic context of the Island. The long awaited festival is back for its 7th Edition and the countdown has started for the Gozo Music Festival. Following the success of last year's festival and the growing reputation of the festival, this year will be headlined by the biggest line up ever to by presented on the island of Gozo and will certainly be one of the leading in Malta for 2008.
