This evening the grand finale of the feast of the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin, also known as Santa Marija, is being celebrated in Victoria. The feast of Santa Marija is also being celebrated in six villages in Malta, Attard, Ghaxaq, Gudja, Mosta, Mqabba and Qrendi. Numerous Maltese and visiting tourists are celebrating the feast in Gozo, many of them staying here for the long weekend and the majority of hotel and other holiday accommodation is reported to be fully booked. The St Joseph Band Club is holding an open day that the general public are welcome to attend on Sunday the 24th of August. The local community will have the opportunity to see the ongoing refurbishment works on the formal committee room which next year will host the musical archive. Several activities are being planned for the open day including exhibitions and talent shows. Military vehicles dating back to the second World War will be exhibited in front of the club's premises from 9.00am onwards. At 11.00am, the Local Council will inaugurate a local talent and old photos exhibition which will remain open until Sunday the 31st August, which is the feast day of Our Lady of Loreto. New detailed and definitive aerial imagery of the Maltese Islands has recently been added to the extensive aerial photographic records of the Authority. This latest acquisition to its resources comes as a result of the Malta Environment & Planning Authority's (MEPA) efforts to offer the public and its customers up to date information and quality service. The latest aerial photography was carried out in May 2008 at two different scales: a low flight at 1:4,000 scale and a higher flight at a scale of 1:10,000. Metric aerial photographic surveys are carried out by specialist companies using dedicated cameras following premeditated flight-plans. In the occasion of the Olympic Games being hosted in Beijing, on the 14th August 2008, MaltaPost p.l.c. invited for an official visit, the Chinese Ambassador, His Excellency Mr. Chai Xi.
