A foreign woman, together with her three children, had to be rescued from a Marsalforn cave by the Civil Protection Department early this evening. The family got into difficulties whilst swimming in rough seas and were swept into the cave by the currents. The Civil Protection Department members managed to rescue the family after abseiling down to the cave.

On the occasion of the solemnity of the Assumption into Heaven of the Virgin Mary, to be celebrated on the 15th of August, HL Bishop Mario Grech has issued a letter to all the faithful in Gozo. The Letter will be read during mass this Saturday evening and Sunday. The Letter speaks about the Diocesan Mission which the Church in Gozo will be celebrating during the next pastoral year, commencing next September. Once again, Alternattiva Demokratika has said that they applaud the Superintendence of Cultural Heritage for not only suggesting to schedule the whole of Ta' Cenc area but also highlighting the fact that more archeological remains are yet to be discovered on other sites in the Mgarr ix-Xini area. The Green Party general secretary and spokesperson for Gozo, Mr. Victor Galea said "We had been now insisting for the last three years that the dilapidated area of Ta' Lambert near the defunct heliport should stop being used as an illegal dumping site where irresponsible people are tipping their rubbish and construction waste in broad daylight. Football enthusiasts in Gozo had something to look forward to during the month of July, a month in which football is at a standstill. This is because for the 11th successive year, S.K. Victoria Wanderers organized another edition of the 5-a-side indoor soccer tournament, the only one of its kind in Gozo, at the Gozo Sports Complex. This year's edition had an important change in the format of the tournament. After the group stages, all teams progressed to the knock-out phase, with first and second placed teams going to Division One whilst third and fourth ones were placed in Division Two. The St Joseph Band Club have launched their new CD '1928' to celebrate the 80th Anniversary of their Society. The CD contains a good mix of traditional and new marches which were backed up by the Lauratana Choir. The CD contains fourteen band marches which were recorded under the direction of Mro Sunny Galea. '1928' can be purchased directly from Band Club premises or from all leading outlets. Price: €10 Meanwhile, the St. Joseph Band will be performing a Musical Concert on Tuesday 26th of August under the auspices of the President of Malta, Dr Edward Fenech Adami. GO, Malta's only quad-play telecoms provider, today officially inaugurated its latest quad-play retail outlet in Valletta from which customers can now get their mobile, telephone, Internet and television services under one roof. The outlet, the second of its kind following the opening of the company's first quad-play outlet in Birkirkara in June 2007, has been extensively refurbished and modernized and brought in line with GO's brand image. GO Chairman Sonny Portelli, Chief Executive Officer David Kay, as well as Valletta Mayor Dr Alexiei Dingli officially inaugurated the new GO outlet, which is located in South Street. MaltaPost would like to advise the general public that, by agreement with the Malta Communications Authority, no mail delivery will be carried out and MaltaPost branches will not be open for business on Saturday the 16th of August, 2008.
