Nadur Local Council and Emmanuel Delicata Winemakers are holding the Annual Delicata/Nadur Wine Festival at Gnien il-Kunsill this weekend. The festival is held on one of the most beautiful belvederes of the Maltese Islands and provides three special evenings of wining, dining and entertainment. On Friday 31st August the entertainment will feature various talents from Gozo and the band Mistaken Identity. On Saturday 1st September the main stage features will be "The Big Band Brothers" , Morena and Spectrum. Read more...

Malta and Gozo will be celebrating the 50th Anniversary of the European Social Fund during a four-day activity to be held over the first week of September. Since Malta joined the European Union in 2004, ESF has funded training for more than 7,000 people, leading to the creation or retention of more than 1,000 jobs in Malta and Gozo. Read more...

The Hon. Anton Tabone, Parliament Speaker, the Hon. Giovanna Debono, Minister for Gozo, the Hon. Louis Galea, Minister for Education and Sports and other distinguished guests attended a ceremony to mark the renewal of the Twinning Agreement between Tolfa, Italy, and Ghajnsielem. The St. Joseph Band directed by Mro Sunny Galea and assisted by Mro Frankie Debono performed its Annual Instrumental Concert during this event, which was held in the main square of Ghajnsielem. Gifts were also exchanged and a firework display followed the ceremonial signing.

Maltapost has advised that two new Sub-Post Offices are to be opened in Gozo, with effect from Monday the 3rd of September. The new Sub-Post Offices will provide all general postal services as well as bill payment services. The Sub-Post Offices will be located at San Lawrenz Local Council, 22A, Triq id-Duluri, San Lawrenz, Tel. No. 21553719 and Hotel Serena Beach Club, Triq il-Punici, Xlendi, Tel. No. 21563556. The medieval chapel of St Cecilia, which is the only surviving medieval chapel in Gozo, has been been badly damaged in a fire which was deliberately set by vandals. Wirt Ghawdex has condemned what it termed as 'barbaric vandalism', and has reiterated that it has been calling for a number of years for the enforcement of the expropriation order on the chapel made 11 years ago. "Now, more than ever before, immediate action must be taken by the authorities to safeguard this important monument from total destruction," the NGO said. Read more...

With continuing interest from visitors and a high volume of sales, Matthew Green, UK based visual artist has been kept busy from across the miles, supplying art..e gallery with additional artwork to replace the volumes of work that have been snapped up by excited collectors in the past three weeks. The gallery has commented that, "the response has been astonishing and the level of interest has kept Matthew extremely busy in supplying archival material from previous exhibitions and also some beautiful pieces from a collection that wasn't due to launch until Summer 2008!" San Lawrenz parish priest Fr Daniel Xerri has been appointed rector of the seminary in Gozo, he replaces Fr Anton Teuma, who has been rector for the past 10 years. Fr Xerri was born on August the 21st 1969, and was ordained as a priest in 1994. He continued his studies in Rome from where he obtained a doctorate in theology. He was appointed parish priest of the Sta Maria della Pace parish in the Sabina-Poggio Mirteto diocese and later at the Santa Maria Assunta parish in Corese Terra. Read more...

The Ramblers Association of Malta is calling for a refusal of the development application which threatens to destroy more open spaces at Ta Cenc. The Association is making a final plea for common sense to overrule speculative greed. The Association argues that with last year's extension of the development zones, projects of such magnitude outside development zones should simply not be entertained. Extending the construction of villas on the unbuilt plateau outside the designated development zone would be a shameful collapse of all the principles which environment NGOs have fought for to preserve such areas for posterity. Alternattiva Demokratika has expressed its deep concern at the comments made recently by the secretary general of the Malta Labour Party, Jason Micallef, during a political activity. Dr. Harry Vassallo stated that "it is regrettable that Labour, from the opposition benches, is planning to be a government of Labourites for Labourites. Mr. Micallef's remarks are condemnable, and the leader of his party should declare whether this is indeed his intention is, if and when he becomes Prime Minister. If Labour had one merit in its short life in government between 1996-1998 it is the fact that it did try to be a government representing everyone. We cannot understand why they are now planning to reverse this policy, one that had won the admiration of many." Read more...

Enemalta have advised that there will be power suspensions in Sannat tomorrow, Tuesday the 28th of August, between the hours of 8am and 12.30pm. The following areas will be affected by these scheduled power suspensions: Triq It-28 Ta' April 1688, Triq Vincenzo Caruana Spiteri, Triq L-Isqof D Cocco Palmieri, Triq Il-Falkun and Triq Ta' Xaman.
