The Ministry for Gozo has recently granted over €42,000 to the Kercem Local Council for the building and restoration of rubble walls and the changing of street lighting in the locality These two projects are being implemented through the scheme issued by the Ministry for Gozo for Gozitan Local Councils and Administrative Committees and are being financed from funds allocated by the Government for the implementation of the eco-Gozo action plan 2010-2012.
Work is well underway on the projects, which includes the building and restoration of rubble walls in Xaghri Street, Xuxa Street, Santa Katerina tal-Qabbieza Street and il-Kalandrijiet Street. Some of these streets are found in the area known as l-Ghadira ta’ San Raflu which is a site of attraction for the locality and to which special attention is being dedicated. The other project approved by this scheme is the changing of street lighting in Xuxa Street and St Gregory Street.
The Minister for Gozo, Giovanna Debono, who visited the works recently, made reference to the street lighting project that is being implemented by the Kercem Local Council, “which will not only reduce the public electrical consumption but will also encourage residents to reduce the electrical consumption at home.”
