The Teatru tal-Opra Aurora would like to announce that next Saturday’s performance of Tosca – a three-act opera by Giacomo Puccini – is sold out. In view of the excessive demand that remains, the theatre is opening the general rehearsal on Friday 14th October 2011 for public admission. Tickets at €10.00 can now be bought from the Aurora Box Office (tel: 21559452, or email: email@example.com ), or upon entrance. Tickets for students cost €8.00 upon presentation of a valid students’ card. The Tosca general rehearsal starts at 5.30pm and it is suggested that Maltese commuters catch the ferry leaving Malta not later than 4.30pm.
On Saturday, the actual night of the opera, the theatre is providing a shuttle minibus service from the ferry to the theatre and back to Maltese commuters who use the ferry service leaving Malta at 6pm. Prior booking by telephone or email is required. No such service is being provided for the general rehearsal.
Opera lovers will this year be treated with a star-quality trio comprising of soprano Michèle Crider, tenor Neil Shicoff and baritone Juan Pons who are household names at New York’s Metropolitan Opera amongst other lavish venues. They will be joined by Gozitan bass Noel Galea, bass-baritone Alessandro Busi, tenor Costantino D’Aniello, bass Cosimo Arena, baritone Louis Andrew Cassar and treble Annabelle Zammit. Scenes designed by Novella Tabili, who is also entrusted with the artistic direction, are being impressively painted by young Gozitan artist Paul Falzon, mounted on sets constructed by Teddy Mizzi and Anthony Buhagiar. Donald Camilleri is in charge of the lights.
Conductor Colin Attard will conduct the Malta Philharmonic Orchestra. This shall be his second Tosca and his seventeenth opera at the Aurora.
The next appointment with opera at the Aurora following Tosca will be The Grand Operatic Concert – a production of Classique Foundation in which Joseph Debrincat conducts the Malta Philharmonic Orchestra, soprano Maria Pia Piscitelli and tenor Francesco Anile, on Saturday, 19th November 2011. Tickets at €15 and €10 are sold from the Aurora Box Office or D’Amato in Valletta and Sliema, Malta.
