Subsidised broadband registrations to open on 26th of January

BroadbandRegistrations for the ‘Blueskies Scheme’ will open on Saturday 26th of January 2008 at Merchant Street Valletta. Through this Scheme, the Ministry for Investment, Industry and Information technology (MIIIT) will be subsidising the first time broadband in Maltese households, getting the service at €3 (Lm1.29) per month. Families, having members with disabilities will get the Broadband service for free.

To qualify for the Scheme, the person must reside in a household where no broadband service is installed or was operating after the 1st of December 2007. Households which are currently served with a dial-up connection may still apply. Each household may only benefit from one Broadband service. Registrations will be received from the public at Merchant Street Valletta, on Saturday the 26th of January 2008 between 9:00am and 1:00pm. In Gozo, registrations will be received on the next day, that is Sunday the 27th of January 2008, at the Ministry for Gozo at St. Francis Square Victoria Gozo. Individuals need to present their ID card in order to register.

The total number of registrations that can be accepted is limited and applications will be treated on a first come first served basis. Applications will be verified by Internet Service Providers to ensure that only eligible applications are accepted. After the completion of the necessary verifications eligible applicants will receive a voucher by mail.

The voucher is to be redeemed at an Internet Service Provider of the individual’s choice within a fortnight from the date of issue. Payments for the service have to be made directly to the Internet Service Provider three months in advance.
