The Emergency Response and Rescue Corps has said that it would like to thank the general public for its encouragement and support for the lifeguard services the organisation provided at the Blue Lagoon in Comino and Ramla Bay, Gozo throughout the summer.
E.R.R.C Lifeguards treated 319 cases, and the service was available on a daily basis. It was run by a dedicated group of E.R.R.C lifeguards. As well as the numerous minor injuries treated on the spot, other more serious injuries required transport to the Gozo General Hospital/ Mater Dei Hospital for proper evaluation by a doctor. The transport of casualties from Comino to Gozo was carried out by the E.R.R.C Hydro Ambulance. This is a specially equipped water rescue boat, equipped with advanced life support systems such as defibrillators, patient monitoring units, etc.
The service was possible due to sponsorship from the from the Malta Tourist Authority to cover the running costs, Ministry for Gozo – ECO Gozo, to buy the necessary infrastructure. Support was also being provided by Transport Malta, Civil Protection Department and Gaia Foundation
