Car Free Day 2011 is taking place in Nadur next Sunday

Car Free Day activities will be taking place next Sunday, the 18th of September 2011 in Nadur. Six Local councils and three voluntary organisations will organise sports, cultural and artistic activities in the streets of the respective localities.
In preparation for this campaign, the Local councils and volunteers were invited to submit proposals in organizing activities during the Car Free Day. A total of 20 proposals were submitted by municipalities and voluntary organisations. The proposals include activities in organising sporting events linked to the promotion of sustainable mobility without cars like walking, cycling and running, organisation of cultural events like artistic exhibitions and road shows related to the theme of the Car Free Day, with recreational activities for all the family.
The activities includes: Face painting; bouncing castle; Traditional games; Water balloon fight; Treasure Hunt; Bicycle ride for all the family; Bingo in aid of Community Chest Fund and a Big Elephant Sale in aid of Puttinu Cares with Live entertainment with special guests: Nicholas & Matthew and Saving Alexis. Other guest are: Mr Remy, Rita Knowles, Mary Portelli, Carmen Tedesco and the Police traffic section.

After evaluation, a number of proposals were selected by an interministerial committee which had the task of making the necessary preparations for the campaign. The proposals selected are from the Local Councils of Nadur, Mellieha Imgarr, Kalkara, Hamrun and Santa Lucija as well as voluntary organisations: Friends of the Earth, Don Bosco Oratory (Gozo) and Inspire Foundation.
The funds amounting to €24,000 were given by Parliamentary Secretary for Tourism, Environment and Culture, Mario de Marco and Parliamentary Secretary for Consumer, Competition Fair, Local Councils and Public Consultation, Chris Said.
