The Malta Environment and Planning Authority (MEPA), has developed a Plan which aims to provide guidance to all stakeholders managing Waste Electrical and Electronic Equipment (WEEE).
The Plan highlights Malta’s commitments under European legislation, in particular the achievement of re-use, recycling and recovery targets. It identifies the roles and responsibilities of the various economic operators, and outlines the infrastructure and financial measures deemed necessary to manage WEEE generated locally.
The Waste Electrical and Electronic Equipment Directive aims to reduce the amount of electrical and electronic equipment being produced and to encourage its reuse, recycling and recovery.
Public consultation on the draft WEEE Plan is being carried out jointly by the Office of the Prime Minister and the Malta Environment and Planning Authority. Feedback is to be sent to the Authority by not later than 31 October 2011 to:
