The London based Try Tag Rugby All-Stars have lived up to all expectations as they outplayed Montpellier 5-2 in the final to take out the Malta International Tag Rugby Festival at Hamrun’s Victor Tedesco Stadium.
Over 100 players turned up for the inaugural festival that welcomed teams from as far afield as England, Scotland and France.
A highlight for the locals was the Gozo Rugby League registering their first victory when they beat off Scotland’s Ayr Boys 10-7.
But it was Montpellier and the All-Stars who were the best teams on the 32 degrees celcius morning and deservingly qualified for the final, where the French team won the mens division and the latter took out overall honours. Montpellier’s Benjamin Thomas was their player of the match in the Frenchmens earlier matches and Belinda Walmsley put together a perfect final to take out player of the match in the match that mattered.
Malta Tag Rugby officials thanked its volunteers and all involved with supporting the event, including the festival sponsors. The Festival has added the figure of 120 bed nights to Malta’s sports tourism scheme this year alone.
