Eltham College Choir in Xaghra’s JP2 Foundation Concert

Just a reminder that the JP2 Foundation will be hosting the UK’s Eltham College Choir to perform two choral concerts. The seventy-five members of the boy’s choir are performing this evening, at the Christ the King Parish Church, in Paola, and tomrrow, Friday, the 22nd of July, their second concrt will be at the Nativity of Our Lady Basilica, in Xaghra, at 8.00pm.
The event is to honour Blessed John Paul II who visited the island twice during his long pontificate. The Choir will be singing Vivaldi’s Gloria and Mozart’s Coronation Mass.
The Eltham College Choir has a long and glorious history, having performed in various Cathedrals in the UK as well as conducting several tours in France, Germany, Poland, Czech Republic, Estonia, Italy and America. Its extensive repertoire encompasses some of the most acclaimed works, amongst which Leonard Bernstein’s Chichester Psalms, the Requiems of Fauré, Duruflé and Mozart, Carl Orff’s Carmina Burana, Handel’s Samson and Poulenc’s Gloria. The choir is under the musical direction of Mro. Alastair Tighe, who took the lead in 2009.
During the evening the JP2 Foundation will be exhibiting a relic vestment of Pope John Paul II. This relic was given to the Foundation by the Associazione Arca Petrina onlus of Rome.
