The Gharb Local Council has recently embarked on a new twinning initiative. This time Gharb have concluded a Town Twinning Oath with Castrolibero in Italy, where it was promised to maintain permanent bonds between the two municipalities, to promote exchanges of all kinds between the inhabitants of the two localities with the aim of fostering, through a greater mutual understanding, the true spirit of European brotherhood. The two towns agreed to combine their efforts in order to further, to the greatest extent within their power, European unity, as an essential undertaking for peace and prosperity.
The main objectives of the twinning from Gharb Local Council’s viewpoint are, to explore new possibilities of cooperation as regards new proposals for EU funding for projects, to promote exchanges of a cultural and educational nature and the promotion of the locality as a tourist destination. Another aim is the promoting of local products abroad and to this end an exhibition of local crafts from Ta’ Dbiegi Crafts Village and other Gozitan crafts was held during the twinning ceremony.
