The Regional Committee for National Celebrations, in collaboration with the Xaghra Local Council, is once again organising a ceremony to commemorate the Maltese victims during the 7th June 1919 riots. These riots were the result of various unpopular measures taken by the English who were ruling the nation. One of the victims was Guzeppi Bajada, born in Xaghra.
This commemorative ceremony will take place on Monday, the 6th of June 2011, eve of a national feast day and public holiday.
5.00pm: Celebration of Mass at the Xaghra Collegiate Basilica and Sanctuary of the Nativity of Our Lady.
6.00pm: Ceremony in front of Guzeppi Bajada’s monument under the patronage of Hon. Giovanna Debono, Ministry for Gozo. The ceremony includes the reading of poems, musical pieces, playing of the Last Post and the Reveille and the laying of wreaths in front of the monument. The ceremony ends with the singing of the Maltese National Anthem.
Everyone is invited to attend.
