The 2011 edition of Gaulitana: A Festival of Music ended with a finale held at the Kempinski Hotel San Lawrenz, last Saturday. The concert was dedicated once more to the musical theatre and attracted a capacity audience which filled the hotel’s hall. It featured the Gaulitanus Choir, it’s soloists and guests directed by Colin Attard with Stephen Attard on the piano.
The first part of the concert was devoted to Frederick Loewe’s Camelot. Besides the choir, this featured some Gaulitanus soloists led by Terry Shaw (in the role of Lancelot), who was also responsible for the adaptation of the evening’s selections as well as for the production and also included Joseph Buttigieg (Ballad Singer) and Patricia Buttigieg (Nimue). These were joined by two British guest soloists, namely singing-actor Paul Barnes (King Arthur) and soprano Emma Darling (Queen Guenevere). The young Jamie Buttigieg appeared as Tom.
The second part of the evening was dedicated to Jerry Bock’s Fiddler on the Roof. This again featured Terry Shaw (Tevye), Emma Darling (Golde) and Joseph Buttigieg (Lazar) as well as, Annabelle Zammit (Hodel), Josianne Callus (Chava), Marthese Borg (Tzeitel), Fabian Galea (Motel) and Paul Sultana (Perchik). Violinist Pierre Louis Attard joined the fray as the fiddler, playing from the hall’s roof-box. Both musicals were narrated by Rob Ricards.
A post-concert reception was held at the hotel and was attended by the participants, some of the festivals’ sponsors and guests.
