The Association of Gozitan non-Governmental Organisations has, for the first time, joined other international communities in order to mark International Volunteer Day. On the same occasion, the Association launched its own website that seeks to promote voluntary work in Gozo. The Association of Gozitan non-Governmental Organisations was set up through the initiative of the Ministry for Gozo in 2003 and includes members from the cultural, philanthropy and the sport sectors.
On this occasion the association launched its new website www.gozo-ngos.org. which was inaugurated by the Hon. Giovanna Debono, Minister for Gozo, during an activity held at the NGO Centre in Xewkija. Through this website the association is offering information about its setup together with a copy of the application form for those non-governmental entities wishing to enrol as members. From time to time the website will be updated to promote activities organised by the association itself whilst affiliated members will be given space to publicise their organisation and activities.
Addressing those in attendance, the Hon. Giovanna Debono said that Government acknowledges the important contribution of non-governmental organisations in the social and cultural development of Gozo and in recent years it provided several direct services in Gozo to assist them in their work. Minister Debono referred to the establishment of the first NGO Centre set up in the Maltese Islands by the Ministry for Gozo, as well as the setting up of the Association that incorporates a wide representation of several entities involved in the voluntary sector in Gozo. Minister Debono said that the website launched today underscores the success registered up to now through these initiatives while it offers wider access to information and communication.
In conclusion, Minister Debono thanked all the members of the Association of Gozitan NGOs for their valid contribution to society.
