HSBC Bank has announced that customers will be able to continue using their existing debit and credit cards after the official Euro Changeover on the 1st of January.
As from euro-day, the 1st of January, payments or debits made through EPOS terminals, or other electronic delivery channels, will be automatically processed in euros. The last credit card statements issued in 2007 will be generated showing the closing balance in Maltese lira as well as the equivalent in euros, converted at the irrevocably fixed conversion rate. The euro equivalent will reflect the opening balance of the next statement in euros. The statement will also display the new credit card limit in euros which will be applicable on the account as from the 1st of January.
