Alternattiva Demokratika – The Green Party referred to the situation regarding opening times of local health centres, which is causing unecessary hardships on particular persons with urgent problems.
Nighat Urpani, AD spokesperson for social protection and health said, “As things stand, apart from Mater Dei hospital, various health centres are closed at various times including nights and Sundays. AD has received complaints from people who have had to wait for a very long time for access to basic needs such as oxygen tanks. Hence, apart from overcrowding at Mater Dei hospital, people with urgent needs are also forced to wait for basic health needs at health centres, if they are open at all.”
Michael Briguglio, AD Chairperson, added, “AD understands that the financial sustainability of public health services is imperative. However, one would expect that basic needs that could save the life of patients are universally available. If just one health centre is open at certain times, one would expect increased availability of basic medical equipment.”
