New 5-a-side sports facilities & carpark at the Gozo StadiumThe Ministry for Gozo has said that the sporting facilities provided by the Gozo Stadium has now been enhanced by 5-a-side synthetic grass pitch for football games, along with extra parking spaces. The 5-a-side pitch will be offering an alternative to the natural turf pitch for training and games in the main Gozo stadium by the fourteen registered clubs in Gozo. The Ministry said that the carpark , which will accommodate about 75 vehicles, will result in greater convenience for all those that use the stadium.

These works were made possible by co-funding between the Ministry for Gozo and the Gozo Football Association (GFA) with the assistance of the National Lotteries Good Causes Fund.

The new pitch and the park was officially inaugurated by the Minister for Gozo, Giovanna Debono. The President of the MFA, Mr Norman Darmanin Demajo in conjunction with Mr. Alvin Grech, President of the GFA were also present for the ceremony of inauguration.

Besides coordinating the various football competitions in Gozo, the GFA also be promoting activities with foreign teams and associations. In recent years the facilities at the Gozo Stadium was used by the Hungarian team for training sessions in preparation for the VIVA World Cup. The fourth edition of this tournament was held last May in Gozo.

In the coming months the stadium will be used as a training camp by teams from Nordic countries. The Ministry said that it believes that the 5-a-side pitch increases the potential of these kinds of services. Projects are also planned to enhance the sustainability of facilities in the stadium especially in relation to water conservation and the use of resources of renewable energy, which are also linked with the eco-Gozo .
