The highly controversial Ta’ Cenc development plan has returned to the forefront after the submission of yet another development application to the Malta Environment and Planning Authority (MEPA). This is the third such application to be submitted since 1996. The application is, “to develop the Ta’ Cenc area into Malta’s first heritage park and multi-ownership tourist hotel development”, and applies for 38 new villas in the area where 14 villas already exist and an extension to the present hotel, in addition to the heritage park and a possible golf course.
Victor Galea, Alternattiva Demokratika’s Secretary General and spokesman for Gozo, is strongly urging the general public to immediately voice their objections to the proposed development via email to the following email addresses. The deadline for the receipt of such objections has been set as the 18th of November – little more than a week from now.
Mr Galea said that AD encourages people to ask MEPA to, “declare Ta’ Cenc as a Special Area of Conservation (SAC) immediately, and that the SAC should also include Area 7, the site of a proposed golf course.” He added that the Malta Government should also honour its obligations to the EU Bird and Habitat Directives.
