Funeral for Xewkija vicitm of Gharb fireworks tragedy held

The funeral of the first of the victims ot the Gharb fireworks factory explosion, Jean Pierre Azzopardi, took place yesterday in Xewkija
The funeral cortege left Gozo General Hospital at 4.30pm , for the church of St. John Battista, Xewkija, where the funeral Mass praesente cadavere was beld. The coffin was carried by fellow members of the Youth Committee and Fireworks committee, accompanied by the Banda Prekursur of-Xewkija.
The funeral Mass was led by Jean Pierre’s uncle Fr Francis Azzopardi, assisted by the Xewkija Archpriest Mons. Carmelo Merieca, among others. The congregation was led by President George Abela, Prime Minister Lawrence Gonzi and Labour deputy leader Anglu Farrugia.
Today the funeral of the five vitims of the Farrugia family will be take place, Nenu his sons Noel and Raymond, daughter-in-law Antoinette and son-in-law Paul Micallef. At 3.30pm, the funeral cortege will leave from from the Church of Our Lady of Pompeii in Santa Dominka Street to the Sacred Heart Sanctuary in Fontana, where the funeral Mass praesente cadavere will be held at 4pm. The remainder of the funeral will be held in private.
