Fitness Week on Monday kick started the tenth anniversary of Skola Sport activities in Gozo, held regularly at the Gozo Sports Complex. The idea behind this week-long activity is to promote a healthier lifestyle and introduce various sporting activities to Gozitan children in a bid to promote sport and encourage better eating habits and more physical activity.
Activities are being held during three daily sessions with the participation of children from all primary schools in Gozo, together with students attending Forms 1 and 2 in Junior Lyceums and Seconday schools in Gozo. Skola Sport instructors, aided by the children’s respective teachers, guide the children during indoor activities such as Gymnastics, Spirit Combat, Fun Games, Basketball, Interval Training, Hip Hop, Break Dance and Sports Climbing while tennis and baseball sessions are held outdoors. Around six hundred children are participating each day.
This event is being organised, by Skola Sport in Gozo within the Ministry for Gozo, the Healthy Eating Lifestyle Plan (HELP) unit of the Gozo College under the Ministry of Education, and is being sponsored by Good Earth.
Skola Sport activities were introduced in Gozo through the initiative of the Ministry for Gozo with the aim of instilling more healthy lifestyles in young generations. This initiative met with a considerable response with children from all over Gozo attending Skola Sport activities at the Gozo Sports Complex throughout the last ten years. Apart from marking this success, Fitness Week is enhancing this project with a mass activity which has the potential of further attracting more children to sport. Activities come to an end on Friday.
