The Malta Union of Teachers has called off its planned strike action by academic staff at the Malta College of Arts, Science and Technology.
MUT officials and MCAST management said that they have had a very cordial meeting with the intention of resolving the impasse which had led to a declaration of a trade dispute and industrial action at the College. They added that they had addressed a number of issues at the meeting that were of concern to both parties, and were satisfied that adequate ground now exists for the way forward. In the circumstances the Union is therefore calling off the industrial action planned for tomorrow.
The MUT and MCAST said they hope that the preliminary understanding and agreement reached serves to pave the way for a satisfactory collective agreement, whereby the interest of all MCAST academic staff is taken into account for the benefit of MCAST’s students.
