A group of 70 children under the supervision of Fr Tonio Galea and assisted by a number of leaders, recently visited the Malta Red Cross Gozo Branch Headquarters in Xewkija. The aim of the two hour visit was to make the children more aware of the role that the Red Cross plays in Gozo.
The children were divided into small groups, each of which had to pass through different stations managed by Red Cross Instructors.
The first station was led by Mr Eric Grech, who delivered a talk about safety at sea and lifeguards. Mr Grech described in detail what lifeguard duties entailed. Mr Anthony Grech and Ms Felicia Muscat managed another station where children saw how the Red Cross ambulances were set up. The children were very forthcoming with their questions about all the various pieces of equipment that is found inside the ambulances.
Mr Anthony Grech also gave a brief talk about the correct procedure on how to dial 112 and call for emergency help. The last station was led by Mr Mario Saliba, who delivered a talk on how the Red Cross was founded and its roll in today’s society, both internationally and locally.
