A delegation from Victoria Local Council, led by Mayor Robert Tabone, recently visited Nichelino, near Turin, Italy, which is twinned with Victoria. For the first time in its history, the Council had the opportunity to participate in an International Fair and promote Gozo’s rich historical and cultural identity, whilst providing an opportunity for three local craftsmen to exhibit and sell their Gozitan products.
During the opening of the Fair, Mayor Robert Tabone was invited to address the public, he took the opportunity to thank Nichelino’s for the hospitalityity given to the Victoria delegation. He also stressed the importance of such twinning agreements which offer the possibility of promoting ones identity within a wider context.
The Mayor was accompanied by Councilor Josef Schembri, by the Gozo Tourism Association representative Ludgard Gatt and the three local craftsmen, Ruben Curmi from the Gozo Cottage Industries, Alda Bugeja who exhibited hand-made weaving and Noella Vella who exhibited hand-made lace.
