These seminars were held under the auspices of the Malta Standards Authority. Various subjects of interest were explained by Magro qualified trainers Mr Anton Portelli and Mr Manuel Bartolo.
The main topics included the importance of plant health and related products. Other subjects included the effectiveness to follow good IPM programmes ( Integrated Pest Management), Health & Safety procedures to be followed by the farmer and the importance of keeping the beneficial insects healthy throughout the cultivation of the crop and afterwards.
At the end of the course participants attend an examination on the subjects covered during the course and all successful farmers are presented with a certificate of attendance and pass of the exam.
Lately, over 300 farmers were also given information leaflets and programmes from studies carried out both in Malta and abroad on the cultivation of the tomatoes for processing. Farmers, producing tomatoes for processing contracted to our production, are all well aware about the importance of the quality of tomatoes purchased by the company.
Strict procedures are followed both by the Producers’ Organisations delivering the crop to the company and also by Magro’s R&D Laboratory . Only good quality tomatoes are purchased.
The company said that Mayor and Three Hills products are produced from fresh healthy Maltese & Gozitan open fields cultivated tomatoes produced by their dedicated farmers.
