Russian television film ‘Last Romans’ filmed here in Gozo

In recent weeks film crews composed of about one hundred people were in Gozo to attract foreign parts to appear in a television film. The film ‘Last Romans, is a production of Russian Cinema Production, it is set in Azerbaijan in 1989 when the country was going through a period of political confusion that preceded the collapse of the former Soviet Union. Sixty-two actors took part in the filming, including a number of extras who are residents Gozo.
The Maltese company Film Corporation Ltd was instrumental in bringing the foreign crew to Gozo. During a visit to the film set, Giovanna Debono, Minister for Gozo, praised the initiative of the company. She said that besides the economic value, such initiatives must also be considered in the context of the promotional value gained as well as allowing more people to learn about the potential of Gozo in this area. The island’s diverse feautures, within relatively short distances, offers several advantages for Gozo to be utilised in the field of advertising and cinema.
The director of the Film Corporation Ltd (Malta), Mark Pace, praised the services and assistance that were provided on the island and said they were given strong support from the Red Cross and the Police in Gozo.
Meanwhile the work of post-production on the film ‘Last Romans’, is expected to be finished by the end of December, it will then start to be shown on Russian television stations by mid-January. It is also expected to be shown shown on several other TV channels across Europe.
