A Taste of Summer near Xaghra’s legendary Calypso Cave

During a press conference, the Xaghra Local Council announced that it is going to organise a large-scale activity for all family members on Saturday 12th June 2010 near Calypso Cave, overlooking the fantastic sandy beach of Ramla. This activity, named TASTE OF SUMMER, will be organised in collaboration with the Body Art Dance Group.
The event begins at 6.30pm with children’s games and continues with live entertainment through the whole evening by popular local singers including Thea Garrett , the winner of the Malta Eurosong 2010, Miriam Christine Warner and Audrey Marie Bartolo, both of them hailing from Xaghra. The highlight of the event will be a professional dance show by the Body Art Dance Group under the direction of Mr. Angelo Bonello. Late during the night, there will a grand concert by Cash & Band, which will be performing new repertoire, and a number of DJ sessions presented by top local DJs including DJ Pierre Cordina (Vibe FM) and DJ Clayton J (89.7 BAY). For the benefit of football lovers, there will be World Cup football shows on a big screen. During the event, there will be a variety of food stalls and bars set up for this unique occasion, traditional Maltese music and Tug of War (Cash prize). Image dancing will also create a spectacular performance during the night and the whole area will be lit professionally by Nexos Lighting.
All those interested in attending for this large-scale event must collect FREE TICKETS from the Xaghra Local Council’s administrative offices during normal business hours, i.e. from Monday to Friday between 8.00am and 4.30pm and on Saturday between 8.00am and 11.30am. The Council notifies the general public that entrance to this activity will not be allowed unless the ticket is presented. For the benefit of everyone, there will be a park and ride service leaving from the square in front of Ta’ Kola Windmill.

During the press conference, Dr. Chris Said LLD MP, Parliamentary Secretary for Consumers, Fair Competition, Local Councils and Public Dialogue said that the Government is committed to help Local Councils organising several activities aimed at strengthening the identity of the respective localities and to attract more people. The event ‘TASTE OF SUMMER’ organised by the Xaghra Local Council is one of the several events organised under the Scheme for Cultural Activities co-financed by the Parliamentary Secretary responsible for Local Councils and the Malta Tourism Authority. Present for the press conference were Mayor Mr. Joseph Cordina, local councilor Mary Carmen Bajada and Mr. Angelo Bonello, the event coordinator. Xaghra Mayor told the media that the Xaghra Local Council is committed to continue organising several cultural activities with the aim of attracting more locals and foreigners to the various places of interest which we have in our locality. Through these activities, local talent is being exposed. The event coordinator Mr. Angelo Bonello explained in detail the schedule of events during this large-scale activity.
After the success of Ggantija Alive, the Xaghra Local Council created something different but on the same level. Keep Saturday 12th June 2010 free so that you can attend for the activity TASTE OF SUMMER… an event not to be missed! See you there!!
