The Minister for Gozo, Giovanna Debono, this morning visited the Citadel as well as other areas of Victoria, where final preparations are underway for this year’s edition of Lejlet Lapsi, Notte Gozitana, which will be held between Friday, the 14th and Sunday, the 16th of May. All the activities are open to the public and are free of charge.
Gozitan residents and those who are visiting the island over this coming weekend, will have a large and varied selection of activities to attend. Victoria will again be where the centre of activities are, such as demonstrations, cultural activities, talks, artistic animations, public exhibitions and entertainment that will appeal to the public of all ages.
The programme for this year will open on Friday morning with a major event for children from all the schools in Gozo. On Friday evening The Gruppo Sbandieratori e Musici ‘Maestri’ from Sicily will hold a display from Savina Square to Pope John Paul II Street, Victoria. This will introduce the spectacular show ‘Music in the Air,’ starting at 7.30pm. The Armed Forces of Malta band conducted by Mro. Ivan Borg, will give a musical performance whilst choreographer Dorian Mallia will present a dance show by ‘Moveo’ dance company featuring Italian dancers. An exhilarating air display by the Italian Pioneer Team will bring the show to an end. There will be transport provided starting from 6:45pm.
The evening continues with the participation of various Maltese and Gozitan singers and dancers. Among the major singers who will be participating, will be Claudette Pace, Ludwig Galea, Olivia Lewis and Debbie Scerri.
Saturday and Sunday’s programme is intended to offer cultural and recreational experiences for children, youths and adults. The main attraction will be at the Citadel Castle Gardens, where there will be activities designed to project what the future will be of Gozo as an ecological island.
Thanks to the cooperation from a number of other entities, travel to Gozo should be easier, with the varied parking arrangements. There will also be a continuous free bus service (shuttle) between Mgarr and Victoria, all day and runs until 1am Saturday and until 3am on Sunday.
