Xaghra Day has been celebrated when, during a ceremony, GIEH IX-XAGHRA 2010 was presented. During this activity students participated in the area of the primary school and included the Maria Bambina choir, the Victory Band and several young dancers all from Xaghra.
The Parliamentary Secretary, Chris Said, talked about the importance of local councils working with organisations and said that it is through this work that the community can all feel that they are working as one.
Said Chris talked about the importance of each local council being made a ‘one stop shop’ offering the best service to residents. To achieve this the council must have a good place to work and the Government is doing its utmost to help in this matter, such as local civic centre. The Xaghra Local Council has work underway on their new civic centre which will enable Xaghra residents to benefit from better services.
The honor GIEH IX-XAGHRA 2010 was awarded to Mr Joseph Camilleri, who was founder of the local football club and for many years with the Xaghra band. Joseph Camilleri was also a photographer and his photographs have now passed to the parish to be put on display as museum exhibits. Parliamentary Secretary Chris Said, described Mr Camilleri as a model citizen that not only worked in many areas of his community, but is able to see that his work is not lost and will still be enjoyed by future generations.
