To commemorate his visit to Malta, HSBC Group Chairman Stephen Green has launched a book entitled Historic Chapels of Malta & Gozo 360. The book, published by Miranda Publishers and sponsored by HSBC, documents the history and architectural beauty and significance of 32 wayside chapels and small churches in Malta and Gozo.
The book was launched in the presence of Parliamentary Secretary for Tourism, the Environment and Culture in the Office of the Prime Minister Mario De Marco at the Carmelite Priory in Mdina. A detailed exhibition of the chapels and small churches featured in the book is running at the Carmelite Priory until Easter Sunday, April the 4th.
"With 359 churches distributed among 84 parishes, I recognise it can’t have been an easy job choosing just 32 chapels for this book, when there are so many fine examples of ecclesiastical buildings in Malta," said Mr Green. "However, thanks to its excellent photography, the book provides an overview of the breadth of Malta’s chapels and churches; from humble 12th century structures to breathtaking baroque churches. Each one provides a fascinating glimpse into Malta’s rich history."
Historic Chapels of Malta & Gozo 360 is authored by Dr Joseph Grima, with photography by Italian Enrico Formica.
