On Palm Sunday, the 28th of March, three local TV stations will join forces to transmit a fund-raising marathon in aid of Arka Foundation. Foremost among its highlights, the Foundation runs Dar l-Arka in Ghajnsielem, Gozo, a respite centre for persons with disabilities and their respective family. This "Home away from home" welcomes clients from Gozo as well as those who hail from Malta.
For the scond year running the marathon will be given a different presentation. It will be transmitted directly from Gozo with a Gozitan touch. Besides running commentaries on the various services and specializations offered at the Respite Centre, viewers will be able to enjoy various facets of Gozitan life. Local artists and artisans on task at the Centre’s beautiful garden will be also displaying their creations and artifacts. Certain folkloristic activities will definitly allure us to a nostalgic past. Renowned local bands, dance groups and singers have offered their services to enliven the marathon. Well-known personalities will be answering telephones and giving their public support for a just cause.
The marathon transmission will run as from 1.00pm to 10.00pm on NET TV, ONE TV, and Calypso TV. Similar to previous years, the general public is expected to be generous with its donations which will go to ensure the continuous running of this Centre of love and care.

Good luck to the Arka Foundation; without their help my mother would never have been able to return home after being paralysed in January 2004. Several very good people freely give their time to help, as well as the excellent staff who help families have some respite from looking after disabled loved ones.
I have nothing but admiration for all those who are employed by and others who help the Arka Foundation and I hope that their marathon is a huge success.
I know that the Arka Foundation has become, in a sense, a victim of its own success and is doing its very best to expand and cater to a huge increase in the demand for its facilities; those who look after severely disabled relatives 24 hours per day need an occasional break to recharge their batteries; and the Arka Respite Centre gives them that needed opportunity.
