Gozitan Artist Victor Agius will be exhibiting his latest series of abstracted paintings at the Galleria Mentana d’Arte Moderna e Contemporanea in Florence. This Gallery promotes and shows works of both international emerging artists alongside with Italian masters such as Ugo Nespolo, Pino Pinelli and Mimo Rotella. Agius was invited to exhibit in this gallery by its director during his participation in the Florence Biennale of Contemporary Art last December.
The artist talks about the series of paintings which he is going to exhibit in the Mentana Gallery next April and states that “Terrae Series is a project wherein I extracted the colours used on my canvases from the earth, natural materials and objets-trouve, which have inspired me and which sometimes found themselves attached to my canvases. These abstractions are therefore the product of a link between actual natural spots and stuff which surround us and my artistic expression. I see these works as a return to the primitive.”
Victor Agius has studied art under Maltese Artist Harry Alden, at the University of Malta and at the International School of Drawing, Painting and Sculpture in Perugia, Italy. On an international scale he has also participated in the Ceramic Triennale of the Domenican Republic and has exhibited his works in shows held at the Bricklane Gallery in London, at the Florence Biennale, in Paris and Milan. Next May a number of his most recent sculptures will be shown locally at the Art..E Gallery in Victoria. Presently he is also collaborating with the New Oxford University and CESPA in Britain in an international arts project.
