1. Mgr. Jimmy Xerri, for the past years parish priest and Seminary rector in the state of Alogoar, Brazil, has been appointed parish of Nadur, the largest parish of the diocese of Gozo.
Mgr Xerri was born in New South Wales on 30 August 1957, son of Gesulada and the late Frank. When still a young boy, he was resettled in Gozo. He was ordained priest on 27 June 1981. He proceeded to the University of Saint Thomas, Rome, where he graduated in Philosophy.
Back in Gozo, he lectured Philosophy at the Sacred Heart Seminary, directed St Joseph Home for four years, and, for eight years, was secretary to Bishop Nikol Cauchi. He then proceeded to Brazil. He is the author of several books in Maltese and Portughese.
2. A group of 19 priests and 21 Gozitan seminarians were in France on a pilgrimage to Ars, on the occasion of Pope Benedict’s proclamation of the Year of the Priests marking the 150th anniversary of the birth of John Mary Vianney, the patron saint of parish priests. Accompanying the group were seminary rector Fr Daniel Xerri and two Fransiscan sisters of the Sacred Heart who serve at the seminary.
3. At the Good Shepherd Pastoral Centre, Victoria, on Saturday 20 February, a half day of spirituality for priests and religious was held. Carmelite Fr Alexander Vella spoke about the Holy Lent.
On this day Bishop Grech turned 53. Mgr Grech and vicar general Mgr. Giovanni Bosco Gauci, who marked his 72 birthday the following day, cut a cake during lunch for priests and religious at the Good Shepherd Pastoral Center, in Victoria. Mgr Gauci delivered a congratulary note and promised the bishop full support and prayers.
